Warming Up to Freezing

Hey I'm still cold so howcome they keep saying temps are warming up. I don't consider highs of 45 "warm." Gotta get me a down jacket. The waterfalls are still frozen so it's not "warm" yet guys. I don't like heat, you all know that, but I realized I don't like cold either. Am I gonna have to go to Florida in the winter?

The cold has affected the California crops which froze solid over the past few days. Lemons, oranges, grapefruit, limes, avocados and some other veggies were 90% destroyed which means, according to the growers, prices will be higher than they've ever been for these crops. Well, I was at supermarket this morning and even though the surviving crops won't be shipped for a few weeks, prices are already being raised. Pretty much sounds like the gasoline scam.

Well it's official. No smoking in restaurants, or bars that serve food. But, if you light up, the owner will look the other way. He will be fined only if there are "several" complaints from patrons - meaning that the smoker will not be affected since he will be long gone. Doesn't bother me since most food establishments here have a no smoking rule anyway and those that don't have a good ventilation system so I never smell smoke. It's the casinos that you could die in. The better places on the Strip have systems so powerful and efficient that you can barely smell smoke from the person next to you, but the smaller, older places can choke you before you even hit the front door. Accckkk. My good friend Barbara has a daughter-in-law with triplets, plus one and took them to check out a daycare center in town. She couldn believe it when she smelled cigarette smoke, and she SAW them smoking. SMOKING IN A DAYCARE CENTER??? What kind of craziness is that? Isn't it nice to have your preschooler come home after a day there reeking of stale cigarette smoke , not to mention the kids are inhaling it. The law recently passed was supposed to ban smoking in day care centers. That line on the ballot just about blew me away. How did smoking in a day care center become allowable in the first place?? What the hell are they thinking?????

Well, my cold is gone and I feel great. It wasn't a bad week. I rested and I needed to. My social life is becoming very active and I needed to spend time with myself sitting in my recliner, "bankie" pulled up to my chin, sipping homemade chicken noodle soup, hot chocolate, and reading a good book, watching a couple of great movies that I recorded (and now I have Netflix too) and just plain vegging out. But I miss not being able to go to the gym and exercise so today is the day I get back on the treadmill and the machines. NO ONE came over because I told them I was contagious. Ahhhhhh. Gotta do this again sometime.

That's VERY interesting, Gloria. We saw a soundbyte on one of the CNN international programs about the freeze in California and the destruction of the crops--my first thought??? Oh OH---price hikes!!!! We don't have to worry about that yet because most of those items are either from Israel or locally grown---but we are having an opposite problem with drought conditions. Prices on breads and flour staples are going through the roof!!! Zimbabwe used to be a major supplier of those products but since mad BOB (Mugabe--the dictator/Hitlerite/head of State) has invaded white farmers (and insisted that the former disadvantaged black workers take over---without success) the supply is next to nil. I feel really sorry for the poor family here that relies upon this as their daily sustenance---they are barely able to put bread on the table never mind anything else. I guess that's why crime is such a HUGE problem here---not that I'm condoning it as an answer!! We are all affected----some to a lesser degree.

Smoking is a big issue here--the Minister of Health is on a roll---she is attempting to ban smoking IN YOUR OWN HOME!!!! Not that it will go anywhere--major smoking population here. The powers that be have succeeded in banning smoking in work places and public spots--such as restaurants etc however there are designated ROOMS that allow smoking---sad to see parents in there with their little children inhaling all of that gunk---if we want to pollute ourselves, okay, but the little ones?? NAH!!!!

I've been watching the weather patterns in the States---how freakish---BLAME IT ON W. !!! LOL
